History

Pecten Golf Club was founded in 1974 to provide a wide range of golfing opportunities to the employees and families of Shell UK Ltd. in Aberdeen, this remains the club’s main objective. Our first event was an outing to Huntly in 1974, which we celebrated 40 years on by returning in 2014 (some pictures below)

We are affiliated to Scottish Golf as a Member Club and have competitions throughout the season to allow our members to obtain and maintain an official handicap. We have a long standing arrangement with Royal Aberdeen GC to use their Silverburn course on Monday evenings as a “home” course for handicapping.

We have an extensive Fixture List for members to play golf on some great courses in North East Scotland.

Fixtures include:

  • Weekday competitions on Royal Aberdeen’s Silverburn course
    • Stablefords, Medals and Team competitions most Monday’s
  • All day outings, visiting clubs in the North East of Scotland
    • Weekends (usually 2 rounds, within 70 miles of Aberdeen)
    • Local Holidays at clubs a little further afield
  • Singles and Doubles Knockout Competitions
  • Matches against other clubs

Pecten also have season long Order of Merit and Eclectic competitions from individual rounds on Silverburn, plus a “Race To Cruden Bay” Competition over season’s outings, culminating in season closing outing at Cruden Bay,

All in all, in a typical season members get the opportunity to play in around 40 rounds of competition golf.
